SUMMARY:THREADS OF PRIDE: Stories of Resilience\, Love\, and Becoming
DESCRIPTION:PURCHASE TICKETS\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\nJoin us to listen and enjoy the Threads of Pride: Stories of Resilience\, Love\, and Becoming storytelling event.\n\n\n\nThread of Pride Storytelling Event \nQ+ Storytellers are sharing Live Storytelling event with AGSW\, Writ Large\, taking place from 7:00pm to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday\, January 14\, at The Collective in Snowmass. These true tales are part of a collaborative effort to bring together the AGSW community with a most precious gift\, stories\, and reflections from our lives. Writ Large Curator/Director Alya Howe will support and coach those selected to participate. \nThe theme of this unique storytelling event is “Threads of Pride: Stories of Resilience\, Love\, and Becoming.” Here participants will share personal narratives that explore pivotal moments of growth\, self-acceptance\, finding community\, and navigating challenges—all aspects that resonate deeply within the Queer experience. It celebrates individual and shared journeys\, encouraging storytellers to bring forward voices representing the vast diversity of the LGBTQ+ spectrum. \nJoin us to listen to and embrace these unique points of view from members of our community on a night that celebrates their stories. \nAbout the Storytellers: \nChrista Wagner Christa’s guiding motto is to live a full\, adventurous life. Older and hopefully wiser\, she strives to greet each day with a smile and a deep breath. \nAllison Alexander Allison has spent her life following her curiosity. Growing up in a military family shaped her love for people\, community\, and the understanding that life is ever-changing. Her work centers on supporting changemakers in cultivating radical self-love to fuel heart-led missions. Since 2019\, she has called the Roaring Fork Valley home\, where she enjoys hiking or Nordic skiing with her poodle\, Zulu\, and cherishes moments with her teenage daughter—especially road trips and crafting sessions. \nMyki Jones (They/She) Myki has been writing in the Roaring Fork Valley since 2021. With experience both on stage and behind the notebook\, they find joy in creating and amplifying others’ voices through reporting and their work with The Empowered Voice magazine. Their ongoing\, beautifully messy journey of identity fuels their hope to inspire others toward self-love\, safety\, and the freedom to hold all the “chaos” that makes them who they are. \nKathy Potter Kathy lived in the Roaring Fork Valley for nearly 25 years\, raising her two children in Basalt and embracing the LGBTQ+ community throughout her life. When her son Jack came out in 7th grade\, Kathy and their family welcomed him with full acceptance. After losing Jack to suicide in 2023\, Kathy continues to champion mental health and LGBTQ+ youth through the Jack Raife Mental Health Fund\, in partnership with AspenOUT. Now living in Southport\, NC\, she remains deeply involved in Pride events\, Aspen Gay Ski Week\, and ongoing advocacy work\, offering support\, visibility\, and plenty of mom hugs wherever they’re needed. \nZack Ford (he/him) Zack is an 18-year-old transgender man who has lived throughout the valley\, including Rifle\, Basalt\, and Glenwood. A senior at Yampah Mountain High School\, he is an artist and singer with plans to study psychology or law. In the year ahead\, he hopes to overcome fear and begin sharing his art\, writing\, and music with the world. \n  \n100% of ticket sales will benefit local non-profit AspenOut. \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Get in Touch. SUMMARY:First Draft: A Dialogue on Writing
DESCRIPTION:Join Mitzi Rapkin as she interviews author Torrey Peters at TACAW. Mitzi is the founder\, host and producer of the literary podcast\, “First Draft: A Dialogue on Writing\,” which features a new author interview each week. She has interviewed more than 500 contemporary writers of fiction\, nonfiction\, essays\, and poetry over the past eleven years. Her conversations explore essential questions about what it means to be human alongside the craft of writing and the themes of the writers’ works. Rapkin is also a journalist\, fiction writer\, certified integral coach\, facilitator\, and fiction-writing instructor.  \nGENRE: PANEL \nFirst Draft: A Dialogue on Writing is a literary podcast produced and hosted by Mitzi Rapkin. Each week the podcast features an in-depth interview with a fiction\, non-fiction\, essay\, or poetry writer. The show is equal parts investigation into the craft of writing and conversation about the topics of an author’s work. \nABOUT STAG DANCE \nIn this collection of one novel and three novellas\, Torrey Peters’s keen eye for the rough edges of community and desire push the limits of trans writing. In Stag Dance\, the titular novel\, a group of restless lumberjacks working in an illegal winter logging outfit plan a dance that some of them will volunteer to attend as women. When the broadest\, strongest\, plainest of the axmen announces his intention to dance as a woman\, he finds himself caught in a strange rivalry with a pretty young jack\, provoking a cascade of obsession\, jealousy\, and betrayal that will culminate on the big night in an astonishing vision of gender and transition.Three startling novellas surround Stag Dance: “Infect Your Friends and Loved Ones” imagines a gender apocalypse brought about by an unstable ex-girlfriend. In “The Chaser\,” a secret romance between roommates at a Quaker boarding school brings out intrigue and cruelty. In the last novella\, “The Masker\,” a party weekend on the Las Vegas strip turns dark when a young crossdresser must choose between two guides: a handsome mystery man who objectifies her in thrilling ways\, or a cynical veteran trans woman offering unglamorous sisterhood.Acidly funny and breathtaking in its scope\, with the inventive audacity of George Saunders or Jennifer Egan\, Stag Dance provokes\, unsettles\, and delights. \n \n Click Here To Learn More\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Torrey Peters is the author of the novel Detransition\, Baby\, which won the 2021 PEN/Hemingway award for debut fiction and was named a Best Book of the Century by the New York Times. Jack was born on November 30th\, 2004\, in Aspen\, Colorado. He joined his family of three in Basalt: his sister and best friend\, Makena\, his mother\, Kathy\, and his father\, David. He was one of the brightest souls the world has ever known. \nHis love for fashion\, airplanes\, animals\, and piano brought so much love and light into our worlds. He was a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community and went about life with an unapologetic sparkle. After growing up in the Roaring Fork Valley\, he spent time in Utah and Boulder\, where he met many friends who loved him dearly. In 2022\, Jack graduated from Telos Academy a semester early\, where he then started an accelerated college career at the University of Colorado Boulder. \nJack had a beautiful and bright future and was the sweetest\, kindest\, most caring\, and forgiving soul. He left a positive impact on every life he touched. Jack’s presence lit up every room he walked into\, slaying and turning heads. Jack Raife will be deeply missed by his sister\, family\, and friends whom he surrounds himself with. His witty and creative mind will forever be remembered\, but his impact on the world is just beginning. \n-Makena Raife \n\nAspenOUT \n\nUnderwrote therapy for local LGBTQ+ youth – 500+ hours since 2021\nFunds local GSA and PFLAG clubs\nSupports and produces pride events and social gatherings\nGives grants to local\, regional\, and national LBGTQ+ nonprofits – 22+ organizations\nGives Scholarships to area students – 6 to 12 each school year\nProduces AGSW – the one and only!\n\nAspenOUT is a fantastic organization that is leading the charge in the RFV. Working together can create a more supportive environment where mental health conversations are encouraged\, and young people feel empowered to seek help. \nYouth Mental Health Support: AspenOUT works to make sure all LQBTQ+ youth in the Roaring Fork Valley (RFV)\, regardless of income and regardless of parental knowledge of their gender identity or sexual orientation\, have access to a licensed\, skilled\, and compassionate therapist specifically trained in LGBTQ+ youth engagement. AspenOUT works with school counselors and administrators\, local GSA and PFLAG clubs\, and the local suicide prevention nonprofit to apprise kids in need that they can obtain free\, confidential counseling at a free or reduced rate.
